Editor-in-Chief
Modern academic research focuses on moving experimental efforts from gown to town. The aim is impactful research that addresses societal problems and promotes human development. Nigeria has recently witnessed a spate of insecurity of different kinds and scopes. For instance, there is a high rate of food insecurity due to the inability of farmers to access farms and social insecurity that has hampered trade activities, as well as human interpersonal relationships. The country’s social and economic throes cannot but be a matter of concern to all well-meaning citizens of Nigeria. Thus, the Editorial Board of ZAJESE, an empirical research publication arm of the Federal College of Education, Zaria, challenged researchers in the field of sciences to engage the many social problems currently confronting the country. The current publication of ZAJESE (Volume 2, number 1, 2022) is the outcome of the challenge.
The volume consists of fourteen (14) articles spread across various aspects of teacher education and societal issues. Contributors from parts of Nigeria’s northwest region examined issues that borders on problem-solving techniques on academic performance and group-based differentiated strategy on performance, attitude, and motivation in learning. Efforts at addressing food security featured topics such as Physicochemical Parameters and Helminth Parasites of Fish in River Galma, Zaria, Kaduna-State, and Prevalence of Haemoparasites Isolated from Cattles Slaughtered at Abattoirs in Katsina-State, Nigeria. The correlation between computer-based teaching and learning to teachers and students in and out of class activities was also addressed. The volume is a piece to reckon with in empirical studies in education.
The volume is timely as it addressed pertinent issues tangential to Nigerian citizens' social cum economic experiences; thus, the volume enjoys my recommendation to the public readership.
